How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign in Bloomingdale

Invisalign clear aligners are crafted using SmartTrack technology that ensures a comfortable fit and predictable results. Customized to fit your smile and keep teeth moving in the right direction, our team will provide your first set of aligners that you are instructed to wear for 20-22 hours each day. After one to two weeks, you’ll return to our office to receive your next set. This same process continues until you are finished with treatment.

Throughout your time with Invisalign, however, you will be expected to keep regular appointments with our orthodontist in Bloomingdale to allow him to examine your smile and make sure everything is progressing nicely.

Once your treatment with Invisalign is complete, there is a good chance Dr. Rutkowski will recommend a customized retainer to help keep your teeth in their new location. Forgoing your retainer will only result in the undoing of all your orthodontic hard work, causing your teeth to shift back into their original position.

Indications for Invisalign

Versatility is one of the greatest benefits associated with Invisalign. They are capable of offering patients far more than traditional braces and are capable of treating all types of dental problems, including:

Crowded Teeth

Ensuring proper oral health while living with crowded teeth can be impossible. Brushing and flossing to reach overcrowded areas may seem futile. As a result, tooth decay and gum disease can develop. Fortunately, with Invisalign, your crowded teeth will begin to have space between them that allows for effective cleaning.

Gaps Between Teeth

Unlike overcrowding, gapped teeth pose an equally dangerous risk because of the bacterial accumulation that can become trapped between teeth. However, with Invisalign clear aligners, we can bring these teeth back together and minimize the space. As a result, you can expect a healthier, more aesthetically pleasing smile.

Bite Alignment

Chronic jaw pain and worn tooth enamel are common problems that can occur with a bite misalignment. No matter the issue, Invisalign can work to shift teeth in the right direction and make it possible for the upper and lower jaw to work harmoniously together.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign stands high above other orthodontic solutions because of its many unique benefits, some of which include:

  • The ability to achieve the same great results as traditional braces but typically, much quicker (i.e., 12-18 months as opposed to 1.5-3 years)
  • Greater flexibility in being able to eat your favorite foods without worrying about pieces becoming stuck in your braces
  • Aligners that are easy to clean and do not require special products or instruments (unless you choose to purchase the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals)
  • Minimal irritation to your soft oral tissues because nothing is protruding from your teeth
